Afforestation and Hiking in Kfardebian on Sunday, October 7, 2012

We have always cherished our mother nature and spent most of our free time hiking in our mountains and natural reserves. This time we will witness the birth of new trees; we will follow our grand fathers’ steps and plant trees in an arid region. We will contribute to the restoration of our Lebanese woodland and degraded high mountain ecosystems.

So be one of more than 1700 volunteers who have participated for more than 5 years in the plantation of more than 57000 trees from 20 native species on more than 700000 sqm in 8 different regions in Lebanon.

We count on you to help us save our beautiful nature.

The event will take place in Kfardebian; the name Kfardebian originates from the Semitic language and perhaps descended from the Syriac, which gives it the meaning of “The Village of Deers”. The history of the village goes way back to an era that is still obscure because of the absence of the archeological and historical assets. It played a special role in the modern era, for it became the center of the High Mountains Area in the Moutasarifiya era (1860-1914).

Its first municipality was founded in 1900 and considered the first municipality in the Kerserwan Mountain. The ruins of Faqra, the traditional Lebanese houses, the old and new bridges, and the remaining mills in the Valley of the Cross are best proofs of the importance of the village and its rich historical originality.

We will start by planting trees for 2 to 3 hours as a max, and then we will have lunch nearby. Afterwards we will take the bus to Kfardebian Piazza where we will start hiking. Our level is 4; the walk is moderate and the trail is descendant in general, it will lead us to a wonderful old bridge of rocks and there you can take as many of photos as you desire but don’t consume all your memory cards capacity because you will definitely take more photos few meters later. The second part of the trail is open to the sun light therefore keep your sunglasses and hats on.

This event is in cooperation with a reputable NGO, it is so interesting and we promise you a lot of fun.
