Anfeh Fort, Salt Mining & Byblos Castle in the Open Top Red Double-Decker Sightseeing Bus

The trip will start by a guided visit to discover the Anfeh peninsula which was once a mighty fortress area, the Crusader castle of Nephin (Anfeh), fief of the Counts of Tripoli. The Crusader Lords of Nephin, triply safe behind the walls of Anfeh, the vast rock-cut moat which severed the peninsula from the town.

The second stop will be at Deir al-Natour Monastery in Anfeh, built by Cistercians. Indeed, the Church interior resembles that of the Cistercian Church of Balamand, built in 1157. Otherwise, the history of Dayr al-Natour is hidden in obscurity, although it is said that the local Orthodox community took it over after the departure of the Crusaders. Its name is almost unmentioned by historical sources during the Mamluk and most of the Ottoman period.

Then, off to Byblos, a city with a history that stretches back at least seven thousand years! Here, you’ll visit the 12th-century Crusader Castle, which was once captured by Saladin himself. You’ll also have time to visit the old souk and the medieval churches that were built by the Crusaders and enjoy the Christmas decoration.
