Arthur Moreira Lima | Piano Concert

The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center (Brasiliban) and the Antonine University have the pleasure to announce the first concert in Lebanon by the acclaimed pianist Arthur Moreira Lima - Pianist.


Considered one of the most important artistic personalities in South America, Arthur Moreira Lima came to world attention when he was awarded Second Prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1965.

A laureate of the Tchaikovsky Competition (1970) and of the Leeds International Piano Competition (UK 1969), Arthur Moreira Lima has toured worldwide, performing in Japan, Great Britain, France, Germany, USA, Austria, Russia and, of course, everywhere in Latin America, appearing with orchestras such as the Leningrad Philharmonic, Moscow Philharmonic, Berlin Symphony, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Northern Symphonia of England, ORTF Paris, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Kyril Kondrachine, Mariss Jansons, Rudolf Barshai, Serge Baudo, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Kurt Sanderling, and Semyon Bychkov.

Arthur Moreira Lima has impressed critics throughout his career, with reviews such as “He played with passion, elegance, and unfailing musicality, and he held his audience spellbound” - The Star, USA.

Regarded as the greatest interpreter of Brazilian music, Moreira Lima played the first audition of Villa-Lobos Piano Concerto n.1 in Russia, Germany, Austria and Japan. He is responsible for the revival of Ernest Nazareth’s music, having recorded the composer´s complete piano music in four albums, with sales exceeding one hundred thousand copies. His recording of “Chopin Favourites” for the Denon label is still a best-seller in Japan. The American release of his cd of Nazareth’s music was chosen “Best of the Year” by Stereo Review Magazine.

Arthur Moreira Lima will turn 79 while he is in Lebanon. He himself considers this one of his last concerts outside Brazil, where he currently lives. For the 13th of July concert, Lima has chosen a breathtaking introduction with Bach (Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring), Beethoven (Moonlight Sonata) and Chopin (Polonaise in A flat major). After that, the public will hear Villa-Lobos, Radamés Gnattali and Ernesto Nazareth – the three composers that Arthur Moreira Lima plays like no one else.
