OVERVIEW
Join us for an environmental and cultural hiking tour from Smar Jbeil to Ghouma Village passing through Mrah ezZiat, exploring on our way old monuments and churches, historical castle and beautiful evergreen forest; ending our day at a local restaurant to have a bite of local food before going back home.


WHAT TO EXPECT
Our day will start with a breakfast at a local Saj café in Smar Jbeil.
We’ll explore the beautiful old churches available at the village plaza and visit the historical Castle located on a hill with a beautiful panoramic view.
We then go through Olive gardens heading to Mrah ezZiat; we cross the valley in an evergreen oak forest he to reach Wadaya Greenland; Then we continue through the historic valley of "Wadi Harba" to reach the natural water table pond called St John Pond; on our way, we have the chance to visit
the well conserved ancient hermitage in the rock cliff of Ghouma.
Then, we will take the track back to join the bus on the Bus Waiting Point through Deir Mar Youssef Farm.
We’ll have our lunch at a local restaurant in the area.

The hike is of level 5
Circuit length: around 11kms
Altitude: 500 m - 150 m
Total slope variation: 350 m
Effective hiking time: 4hrs
The hike will be guided by an ecotourism specialist at a moderate rate.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• General knowledge contest and quiz with a valuable prize for the participants
• Needs for the hike: HIKING shoes, backpack, water bottle of 1 liter min, warm jacket, camera, ID card, insurance card, smiley face and full energy.
• The tour will be provided by a comfortable air-conditioned bus, reservation required.
• Contribution: 35’000 LBP/adult, 30'000 LBP/student between 12-17 y.old, 25’000 LBP/child below 11 y., covering program, guides and transportation, excluding food and drinks (Please bring the exact amount).
• Meeting time and place: at 8h00 am – Zalka, near L’Abeille d’Or – PLEASE BE ON TIME
• Return time : around 06h00 pm.


N.B.:
- Cancellations without prior notice of 24 hours require a payment of 50% of the full contribution
- A minimum of 15 persons is required for the trip to be feasible
- Hikers are requested to book their places, the latest Friday
- Hikers are advised to participate in the hike to their own responsibility
- Hikers are asked to follow hiking ethics provided by Green Steps
- Smoking is not allowed during the hike
- In case of force majeure, some modifications may occur to the program

INFORMATION ABOUT THE REGION
Smar Jbeil is a village located in the Batroun District in the North Governorate of Lebanon. It is located on a hill facing the Mediterranean sea at 500 m elevation. It is one of the oldest villages in Lebanon. In the Middle Ages, the Maronites took it as a refuge from their enemy’s attacks.

Ghouma is located 12 km from the city of Batroun at an altitude of 450m. It is surrounded by SmarJbeil from the north-west, Mrah al Ziyat north, Jrabta east and from the west Rachana and Fgal.
