Overview
Join GREEN STEPS on Monday 2/4/18 to explore Ammiq village and Wetlands, hiking in the oak and pine forest of Ammiq, under Barouk natural reserve, crossing its beautiful wetlands, hiking through the green field of the Bekaa valley, watching the wild birds crossing the area during this migration season, and ending our day with a wine tasting in the Bekaa.


What to Expect
The journey will start with a breakfast stop on our way.

Our main activities during this day are as follows:
 Hiking starting from the oak and pine forest of Ammiq, under Barouk natural reserve, reaching Tallit El Sa3louk from where we can admire a fantastic view of Ammiq wetlands and the colourful Bekaa valley. Our hike will continue to Ammiq wetlands, where we are going to take a trail, in the middle of the Wetlands; it is a fantastic one where you can admire lovely sceneries. You can watch the wild birds crossing the area and resting on the fresh water of Ammiq.
 For photography lovers, Ammiq is a very distinguished and beautiful area to catch beautiful photos.
 We’ll be having our lunch in the nature, at Skaff farm, so please bring your meal with you.
 Since we are in the wine countryside of Lebanon, we cannot avoid visiting one of its wineries, for a wine tour and wine tasting .
The trail is of level 4, easy for families and children
Total Circuit length: 10 Kms
Altitude: 1050 m – 870 m
Slope variation: 150 m
Effective hiking time: 4 hrs
The hike will be guided by an ecotourism specialist at a moderate rate.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• General knowledge contest and quiz with a valuable prize for the participants
• Needs for the hike: hiking or walking shoes, windbreaker, hat, backpack, water bottle of 1 liter min, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, meal (dry fruits, energy bars, sandwich), ID card, insurance card, smiley face and full energy.
• The tour will be provided by a comfortable air-conditioned bus, reservation required.
• Contribution: 40’000 LBP/adult, 35'000 LBP/ student between 13-17 y.old & 25’000 LBP/child 12 y. and below, covering guides, entrance to the reserve and transportation (Please bring the exact amount).
• Additional 10'000 LBP/p. for late booking on Saturday.
• Booking must be confirmed by a down payment of 50% of total contribution by OMT or Western Union
• Meeting time and place : at 8h00 am from Zalka near “l’abeilled’or” – PLEASE BE ON TIME
• Return time : around 06h00 pm

N.B.:
- Cancellations without prior notice of 24 hours require a payment of 50% of the full contribution
- You are requested to book latest on Friday
- A minimum of 15 persons is required for the trip to be feasible.
- Hikers are advised to participate in the hike to their own responsibility
- Hikers are asked to follow hiking ethics provided by Green Steps
- Smoking is not allowed during the hike
- In case of force majeure, some modifications may occur to the program
- A Discount of 20% is provided for our members on hiking items at PRO-SHOP ZOUK.


Information about the region
Ammiq village is located in West Bekaa, 57 kms away from Beirut capital.
Ammiq Wetlands is the largest remaining freshwater reserve in Lebanon. It is Lebanon’s most biodiversity rich site and the best place to see wild birds. Designated as a Ramsar site, an Important Bird Area and part of the UNESCO “Man & Biosphere” reserve of the Shouf mountain.
