Hiking Baakline | Olistrails

Join on the 25th of February on our hike in Baakline. We will start our hike by walking in Baakline Reserve, passing by a sinkhole, continuing all the way until we get to Baakline Waterfalls.

"Four kilometers to the southeast of Beiteddine lies the town Baakline, the first capital of the Maani Emirs, who settled there in 1120. Emir Fakhreddin II was born and raised here. The town is known for its beautiful old houses and its grand Serail which was the seat of the local administration in Mount Lebanon until World War II, and is now a public library and cultural center boasting a large collection of books in Arabic, French, English and even German and a delightful, dedicated staff. In the center of town is the palace of Sheikh Hussein Hamadeh, the building of which began in 1591.

Baakline is also renowned for its distinctive embroidery, silk weaving and woven rugs, which take their design cues from Persian styles, which are all on display at the Artisanat al-Chouf atelier. Below the atelier is the heritage museum, where the curator can also tell you about local soap and organic olive oil production.

Baakline has an abundance of wooded areas and a number of ancient sarcophagi, cemeteries and shrines are also to be found there".
