SUN 2 DEC 2012 ::: HIKING GHINEH - RASS KNISSEH with Sports4Life

This Sunday we are hiking in Ghineh village in the foothills above Jounieh, located in the Kaza of Kesrouane .The name of Ghineh originates from the old Semitic word meaning the Tomb of the God. The town derived its name from the temple of Adonis, and his tomb, known as Qa'abel Temple. Ghineh has several Roman and Byzantine vestiges. At the bottom of the town are the ruins of a Roman temple that in the 5th century was transformed into a church during the Byzantine era. The church resembles a basilica, with its mosaic floor and decorations. During the same Roman period, several cemeteries were carved though rocks facing this site, with funeral related steles, the most important of which is a stele representing a hunter fighting an animal.
Ghineh is 36 kilometers away from Beyrouth (Beirut) the capital of Lebanon. It's elevations is of 950 meters above sea leve, amidst breathtaking natural scenery as always. Join us for an amazing Sunday hike.
