Hiking "جبل المحابس" Trail of our ancestor!!! "طريق ألقدّسين"

Trail by Dale Corazon
This time our hike will be in Tannourine in North Lebanon. You get the chance to walk between the Cedars and in the valley along the river bank of Nahr El Jawz on a road dated back to the Pre-historic era, where the scenery is really beyond description.
Tannourine is a home to over 17 villages such as Tannourine el Fawqa, Wata Houb, el Wadi, Tannourine el Tahta, and many other wonderful villages.
Covering 12 square km, Tannourine Cedars Reserve lies in a splendidly beautiful area and protects one of the largest and densest cedar forests in Lebanon.
The valley offers a varied landscape and it’s considered the second Saints Valley after Qadicha Valley.
You will visit the old “Deir Mar Mikhael” at Ain Reha village where Saint Charbel and the Patriarchs used to have some rest in their travels.
Our hike will be divided into 2 levels.
HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy, 4 to 6 for intermediate, 7 to 9 for strenuous
So for hiking level 4, it’s downhill, easy and beautiful trail of just 10 KM. From Dahr El Mill to El Fowar you will continue along a trail full of Cedars trees and springs leading to Ain El Raha, then to the river. You will also be able to see rare views particular to this altitude terrain like “Qornet El Ribaz”. The stunning mountainous landscape, with cedars and pine forests seemingly defying gravity and growing on extremely vertical slopes, is impressive; the scenery is indescribable.
After crossing el Fowar The scenery changes from this stage and the groups will be divided in 2. The track will take you to the old Monastery “Deir Mikhael” in Ain El Raha village; we will visit it and benefit from an explication of all the history in the area.
Our lunch will be there under old oak trees near the Monastery then we will start and head towards the river bank crossing by “Jabal El Mahabes” Caves Churches “Mgharet el Aatraniye, Mar Semaan, Le Mttolle, Sanaklit, El 3assie, etc. ” old houses, Waterfalls and Hadrian’s inscription (117-1138 AD) until we reach the bridges and mills of Tannourine Tahta village at Tahoun Bassa near Mar Yaacoub Cave Church (30m Long and 30 m up in the Mountain cliff with water inside).
LEVEL 5 is 2 km longer with an extra half hour; will start walking the same trail of level 4 and will split at some point to reach house of Antonios Tarabay monk, then with stretch path you will continue parallel to level 4 from Ain El Raha to Tannourine el Tahta ascending and descending exciting trail that requires more physical effort. You will visit different places like Deir Mar Geriies, Nebe3 el Kazzab (Springs) and the old Deir Mar Antonios. You will be charmed above all by the Cedars and trees along the river banks and the walnut trees which grow in preference close to water and which have given the river its name.
On our way back to Beirut, we may stop in Batroun to drink fresh Lemonade.
