Akram Najjar has a B. Sc in physics and mathematics (1966) from AUB, and a B. Sc. in electronic engineering from the University of Hertfordshire, UK (1969). His professional life is in information technology. When he was 11 years old, he was sick for 6 months. His mother Souad introduced him to Classical Music, which became a life-long love. Soon after, at the age of fourteen, three events turned him into a Jazz lover: he came across the Voice of America daily Jazz program, a friend lent him a Louis Armstrong LP and by mistake, he was assigned to be a drummer in the scout’s band.

Workshop Description:

Since Jazz generally relies on the improvisation and development of three minutes songs, it is critical for the enjoyment of Jazz to know these songs. The autumn workshop covered Jazz in its periods. This workshop follows up with a presentation of two songs in each session (1 hour for each song). Each hour will present interpretations of a single song by several great jazz musicians. The songs in their non-jazzed up version will be uploaded to our site and placed on a CD, before the workshop.

Session 1: Sweet Lorraine – Stardust
Session 2: Goodbye to Porkpie Hat – Loverman
Session 3: Flamingo – Body and Soul
Session 4: I Got Rhythm – Sophisticated Lady
Session 5: Ain’t Misbehavin – Willow Weep for Me
