OVERVIEW
Join us to discover a beautiful village in Aley disctrict, KFARMATTA, overlooking Beirut capital, distinguished by its historical heritage, and characterized by its breathtaking beautiful natural scenery. You’ll be attracted by its old silk factory and its naturally-formed rock fissure called Fizr.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Our day will start with a breakfast on our way.
Once arrived to Kfarmatta village, we’ll visit the silk factory, one of the oldest in the world built in 1860.
From there, we’ll pass by the village till we take an agricultural trail full of olive trees, and pine trees. We’ll cross on our way beautiful old mills and we’ll pass by a river related to Damour river. Our trail will lead us to the famous Al Fizr naturally-formed rock fissure and we’ll continue till we reach the end of the trail.
And to encourage local people in their village, we'll end up our day to have a bite at a local snack in the village having a beautiful view over the area.

Circuit length: around 10 kms
Altitude: 600 m - 450 m
Downhill : 150 m
Uphill : 50 m
Effective hiking time: 3 hrs
The hike will be guided by an ecotourism specialist at a moderate rate.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• General knowledge contest and quiz with a valuable prize for the participants
• Needs for the hike: HIKING shoes, Hiking stick, backpack, water bottle of 1 liter min, hat, camera, ID card, insurance card, smiley face and full energy.
• The tour will be provided by a comfortable air-conditioned bus, reservation required.
• Contribution: 35’000 LBP/adult, 30'000 LBP/student between 12-17 y.old, 25’000 LBP/child below 11 y., covering program, guides and transportation, excluding food and drinks (Please bring the exact amount).
• Meeting time and place: at 8h00 am – Zalka, near L’Abeille d’Or – PLEASE BE ON TIME
• Return time : around 05h00 pm.

N.B.:
- Cancellations without prior notice of 24 hours require a payment of 50% of the full contribution
- A minimum of 15 persons is required for the trip to be feasible
- Hikers are requested to book their places, the latest Saturday
- Hikers are advised to participate in the hike to their own responsibility
- Hikers are asked to follow hiking ethics provided by Green Steps
- Smoking is not allowed during the hike
- In case of force majeure, some modifications may occur to the program
- No pets are allowed

INFORMATION ABOUT THE REGION
Kfarmatta is 27 kilometers away from Beirut, capital of Lebanon, rising 700 meters above sea level.
The word “Kfar” means town in Latin and the word “Matta” is Matthew’s Monastery. The history of the city goes back to six centuries and ruins in its neighborhood date back to the time of the Phoenicians and the Crusaders. It was also home to the Tanoukhi princes. One of the most famous tourist attractions in the town is the silk factory which was built in 1860.

Al Fizr is a naturally-formed rock fissure characterized by its form with more than 4 meters wide, 20 meters high, and 20 meters long.
