ROADS STATUS:
Security Advisory-Visit of the Pope Benedict XVI to Lebanon

On the Occasion of the Pope Benedict XVI visit to Lebanon on the 14th of September 2012 for three days. Please note that the below security measures implemented by the Host Government will take place as follow:

On Friday, 14 Sep 12, the Pope will arrive in Beirut International Airport and move towards his residential accommodation in Harissa. From 1100hrs to 1600hrs, vehicles are not allowed to park from the Airport road towards Hafiz Al Assad Avenue, Salim Slam Avenue, Fouad Chehab Avenue, Georges Haddad Avenue, Beirut Port Entrance, Charles Helou Avenue, Carantina Avenue, the Coastal road from Carantina towards Dbayeh Bridge, Jounieh International Highway, the Fouad Chehab Playground Road in Maamelten, Bkirki & Harissa.From 1100hrs to 1600hrs, the Coastal road from Dbayeh Bridge towards the Karantina Bridge will be closed.

On Saturday, 15 Sep 12, the Pope will visit the Presidential Palace in Baabda then return back to Harissa. From 0700hrs to 1400hrs, vehicles are not allowed to park from Harissa towards the Fouad Chehab Playground, Jounieh International Highway, Dbayeh Bridge, the Coastal Road towards Karantina, Emile Lahoud Avenue, Sayad Roundabout, and the Presidential Palace-Baabda. From 0700hrs to 1400hrs, the Coastal road from Dbayeh Bridge towards the Karantina Bridge will be closed.

On Sunday, 16 Sep 12, the Pope will head a Mass South of the Biel, in Downtown Beirut.
From 0400hrs to 1300hrs, vehicles are not allowed to park on Emile Lahoud Avenue from Sayad Roundabout towards Carantina Bridge, on Pierre Gemayel Avenue from Dkhouliyeh Intersection towards Aadliyeh Tunnel, on Paris Avenue from the Old American Embassy Intersection towards the Military Resort Intersection, on Charles Helou Avenue from the Forum De Beirut towards the Immigrant’s Statue.
From 1700hrs to 1900hrs, vehicles are not allowed to park on the road from Harissa towards Fouad Chehab Playground Intersection, Jounieh International Highway, the Coastal road from Dbayeh Bridge to Carantina Bridge, Beirut Port Road, the Navy Base Road, Wafiq Siunno Avenue, Phoenicia Tunnel, Salim Slam Avenue, Kamil Chamoun Avenue & the Hafiz El Assad Avenue towards the Airport . The roads the will be closed in the area between Karantina Bridge & the Forum De Beirut, between Paris Avenue & the Old American Embassy Intersection, between Armenia Street Gemmayzeh Street, between Georges Haddad Street & Fouad Chehab Avenue and between Fakhr Eddine Street & Omar Eddaouk Street. From 0600hrs to 1900hrs, the Coastal road from Dbayeh Bridge towards the Carantina Bridge will be closed.

- The Harissa highway will be closed from 14 to 16 Sep 12, starting at 0800hrs from Fouad Chehab Intersection in Jounieh & the middle of Ghousta Village towards Harissa.
- The airport road might be temporary closed during the arrival of the Pope’s plane (around 1345hrs) and until his convoy departs to Harissa. Government officials will be at the airport for the welcoming protocol
- Security measures for the safety of the pope & the government officials will be tight
- Roads used by the Pope’s convoy might be subject to temporary closure shortly before, during & shortly after his movement.
- Traffic Jams are highly anticipated especially that people might gather on the roadside to welcome the Pope.
