Lebanese Adventure: Night of the shooting stars - Perseides

Join for our annual meeting with the Perseid Meteor Shower on Saturday 12th of August 2017, in Tannourine Cedars Reserve (Lebanon Mountain Trail sections 9 and 10).

We will spend the night lying down stargazing, at the entrance of the amazing Cedars forest of Tannourine, which has the greatest concentration of cedars of Lebanon. The place is with a low light pollution

An open-air presentation animated by Dr. Roger Hajjar - Astrophysicist - will explain the phenomenon of meteors shower and a Lebanese dinner will be prepared by local hosts.


Needless to say, children are welcome in this magical place as astronomy workshops will be waiting for them. Therefore, the association
UniversCiel will join us this year to animate diurnal and nocturnal activities for kids between 6 and 14 years old :
- Wire string art - on constellation theme
- Star finders
- Observation of constellations
- Launching of water rockets
- Launching of lanterns
The next day after a Lebanese breakfast, we will hike inside the reserve for approx. 1 hour.

Saturday 12
16h30 : Welcome at the reserve entrance
17h00 : Diurnal Astronomy workshops for children
19h00 : Dinner
20h30 : Presentation on the Perseid meteor shower (Dr. Roger Hajjar)
21h30 : Observation night activities
- Observation of the starry sky
- Night workshops for kids :
Launching of lanterns
- Fire camp and animation (don’t hesitate to get your instruments)
- Astrophotography


Sunday 13
08h30 Breakfast at Eco Dalida
10h00 Hiking for 1 hour inside the reserve

What to bring:
Sleeping bag, blanket (optional)
A rubber mattress (for aerobic) (we provide camping tents)
Warm clothes : fleece jacket and K-way especially for kids (it’s cold at 1800 m of altitude)
Torch lamp + spare batteries
Hiking boots or tennis shoes, gourd, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen for next day hike
Towel and toiletries, spare clothes
Insect repellent

Transportation:
By private cars

Weekend fees per person :
- The price is $60 (or $55 for those who get their own tents) including camping, dinner, breakfast, the conference, reserve entrance fees, guides and insurance.

For kids below 13 years old the price in $25 + $10 for the astronomy activities fees.
- No fees for kids under 6 years

Feasibility:
Places are limited to 120 participants.
