Christopher Mikhayel Shaheen performs and records in a wide variety of genres. He currently serves as Percussionist/Timpanist with the Lebanese National Philharmonic, and drummer for the Lebanese National Conservatory Big Band. He also teaches drum set and percussion at the Conservatory and LeBAM. Before moving to the Middle East, his performing and recording career included over a decade in New York on the Jazz and Latin American scenes, performing and recording with musicians from all over Latin America. Previously, Christopher had worked with many jazz artists while earning his M.M. with Honors from the prestigious University of North Texas. He also holds a B.M. with Honors from Capital University. Christopher has performed and lectured in the US, Europe, South America, and throughout the Middle East. He has contributed several articles on jazz drumming and AfroColombian percussion for Percussive Notes. Christopher's teachers have included Robert Breithaupt, Ed Soph, Peter Retzlaff, Portinho, Jim Chapin, Franco Pinna, Cotito, Roberto Cuao, Gualajo, Jorge Aguilar, Joche Plata, Rafael Castro and Einar Skaff. He has traveled many times to Latin America, to do research and buy instruments. Christopher is an Innovative Percussion endorser.
