- Activities : Juniper hiking trail at Sunset time in Rabeea - Barka, with a Wine tasting and a refined dinner at Chateau Barka, and an overnight in Deir El Ahmar Village, an early Vineyard hiking trail at Sunrise time, a visit to Ouyoun Orghoush and Lunch stop at the Cedars.
- Contribution: 180’000 LBP/adult in a double room basis, covering guides, program, transportation for 2 days, accommodation in a comfortable auberge with breakfast, Wine tasting and refined dinner at Chateau Barka, a sunset hike and sunrise hike. The contribution does not include food and/or drinks of Sunday lunch, neither food nor drinks not mentioned in the event.
- A 50% down payment is requested to confirm the booking through OMT or BoB.
- The dinner at Chateau Barka winery will include an open cheese and cold cuts, Smoked salmon salad, Sausage, pesto chicken pasta, steak platter, open wine.

Overview
Do you want to spend a special weekend in a unique way in rural villages in the Bekaa ? What about an escape to Ouyoun Ourghosh and the Cedars as well?
Join us for an unforgettable weekend in Deir El Ahmar and Barka on Saturday 22nd of June 2019 and Sunday 23rd of June 2019 to enjoy a sunset hike on the Juniper trail of Rabeea – Barka, and continue our evening at a local winery Chateau Barka for a wine tasting and a refined dinner, and an overnight at Deir El Ahmar Auberge. It’s not all, the following day we’ll have an early Sunrise hike in the Vineyard trail, followed by a traditional breakfast and a visit to the Lady of Beshwat and the site of the biggest concrete rosary, a stop at Ouyoun Ourghosh and a lunch stop in the Cedars.


What to Expect

 Schedule of the 1st day – Saturday 22/06/2019 :
Leaving Zalka at 1h00 pm, heading to Deir El Ahmar.
Check-in at Deir El Ahmar Auberge.
Sunset hike will start at 4h30 pm in Rabeea – Barka village, between the majestic juniper trees, till we reach Ras Barka.
Information about the Sunset Hike :
• The hike is of level 4+
Circuit length: 8 km.
Altitude: from 2100 m to 1650 m
Total downhill : 450 m
Effective hiking time: 2.5 hrs
The hike will be guided by an ecotourism specialist at a moderate rate.

Our hike will be followed by a visit to Chateau Barka for a wine tasting and a refined dinner. And our journey will end with an overnight in Deir El Ahmar Auberge!

 Schedule of the 2nd Day – Sunday 23/06/2019 :
The day will start with an early Sunrise hike in the Vineyards of Safra and Barka, at 6h00 am.
• The hike is of level 4+
Circuit length: 5 km.
Altitude: from 1100 m to 1400 m
Total uphill : 300 m
Effective hiking time: 1.5 hrs
The hike will be guided by an ecotourism specialist at a moderate rate.

It will be followed by a traditional breakfast at the auberge.
Check-out from the auberge and heading to the Lady of Beshwat and the site of the biggest concrete rosary.
A stop at Ouyoun Ourghosh is worth it, to chill out in this beautiful area before heading to the Cedars for a lunch stop.
It will be by then the end of our program and we’ll head back to Zalka holding with us beautiful memories and pictures!

• Accommodation: participants will be accommodated in a double room basis. Bedrooms are comfortable with bathrooms and air-condition. PLACES ARE LIMITED, FIRST COME - FIRST SERVED BASIS. Please book your places as soon as possible.

• General knowledge contest and quiz with a valuable prize for the participants
• Needs for the hike: hiking shoes, hiking sticks, windbreaker, backpack, water bottle of 1.5 liter min, sunscreen, hat, camera, meal (dry fruits, energy bars, and sandwich), ID card, insurance card, smiley face and full energy.
• The tour will be provided by a comfortable air-conditioned bus, reservation required.
• Meeting time and place : Saturday 22/06/2019 at 1h00 pm from Zalka near “l’abeille d’or” – PLEASE BE ON TIME
• Return time to Zalka: Sunday 23/06/19 around 6h30 pm


N.B.:

- Cancellations without prior notice of 24 hours require a payment of 50% of the full contribution
- A minimum of 15 persons is required for the trip to be feasible
- Hikers are advised to participate in the hike to their own responsibility
- Hikers are asked to follow hiking ethics provided by Green Steps
- Smoking is not allowed during the hike
- In case of force majeure, some modifications may occur to the program
- No pets are allowed

Information about the region
Barka, a beautiful mountain village located in northeastern Bekaa, at 1450m above sea level, in Baalbek District.
Lazzab, the Arabic name for juniper, is an evergreen coniferous tree of the cypress family Cupressaceae.
The juniper is one of the most important forest species in Lebanon. It is a very sturdy tree that can withstand extreme weather conditions. Juniper trees are widespread on the eastern and western slopes of northern Mount Lebanon and, to a lesser extent, on the western slopes of the Anti-Lebanon Range, at altitudes above 1,400m. The juniper is also common in the mountain region of Dannieh.
Deir El Ahmar is situated in the northeastern hemisphere of the Bekaa valley between the Eastern and Western Mountain ranges of Lebanon, where Qornet es Sawda, the highest peak in Lebanon (3,083m), lies. The town sits at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level and is located 100 km away from Beirut and 45 km away from Zahle. The town of Deir El Ahmar has been a home to many rich civilizations including Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans to name a few. Deir El Ahmar is known for its unique biodiversity, fertile lands, and captivating landscape.
