WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

During the course of this two day workshop, we will be making brooches out of wooden cut triangles.
The first stage of the workshop is to design the layout and graphics of the brooch.
We will then proceed with the making of the brooch that will cover most of the two day affair.
These are the following steps that we will encounter for the brooch series: sanding to prep the wood, hard edge painting, and the final stage is assembling all the elements together to create a single entity.
The materials provided for this workshop are the following: markers, wood, rods, paint, brushed, tape, foam, brooches, beading embellishment, gold leaf silver and gold chain.

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Beirut, raised in Montreal, Niloufar Afnan’s jewelry practice commenced in London. While pursuing her Masters at Central Saint Martins, she produced commissioned work for Espace M, 6:05 Depeche Mode, and Orient 499. While working for the London based studio Based Upon, Afnan introduced new medium into her jewellery making.
Her work pushes and pulls the boundaries of form and property. Her costume jewellery challenges our appreciation to material turning plastic or fabric into jewels. After many years being away from her birth city, she returns to Beirut in 2013 as an independent designer. Her curiosity with new materials brings her work to a cutting-edge design.
